We evaluate each area in your facility and select the most cost effective approach for each area based upon several factors including:

Biohazard Exposure Levels- The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) categorizes contamination levels or disease exposure levels based upon four biological safety levels (BSL). These range from a Level 1 BSL, carrying a low risk of exposure to human diseases and where preventative vaccines or therapeutic interventions are readily available, to a Level 4 BSL, where exposure carries an extreme risk and where penetrative or therapeutic treatments are not usually available. Accordingly, the price of treating a Level 1 BSL area is lower than treating a Level 4 BSL area. The BSL level often dictates a specific treatment method and disinfectant requirement.
Square footage of the treatment area- Large spaces are more cost effective for us to treat and are priced accordingly.
Density of objects in each area- High density areas, such as operating rooms with a high concentration of intricate objects, are more expensive to treat than low density areas such as gymnasiums with few extraneous items.
Cleanliness of the surface to be treated – Surfaces that are presented to us with gross soiling, or years of imbedded contamination, require additional pre-treatment steps and are priced accordingly. Customers can reduce the cost of our disinfection and anti-microbial services by thoroughly cleaning their surfaces prior to our treatment.

3. How long does a typical treatment take?

Our advanced equipment technologies allow us to get in and out of your facility as quickly as possible with minimal disruption to your schedule. Most of our treatments are performed in one day. The treatment time varies based upon the size of your facility, the amount of items requiring treatment, the condition of the space, and the contamination or disease that we are treating, or looking to prevent. In some cases, we can work during normal business hours without disrupting your business. In other situations, we work during your off hours.

4. How do you document results?

Since we are essentially fighting an “invisible enemy”, we use analytical tools which allow us to objectively measure and document the results of your treatment over time with biological indicators, chemical indicators, ATP Luminometers, gas concentration meters, UV output detectors and air particulate meters. To verify the anti-microbial efficacy of Surface Defense, we use a Bromophenol Blue (BPB) solution, insuring that continuous protection is maintained.

5. How long does Surface Defense anti-microbial protection last?

Since the antimicrobial is permanently bound to the surface and thermally stable, insoluble, and non-leaching, the treatment can theoretically last for the life of the treated surface in the right conditions. However, the life of the treated surface depends on a number of factors, not the least of which is surface preparation. If you treat a dirty surface, when the dirt comes off, the effectiveness of the antimicrobial will decrease. High surface abrasion (i.e. floor scrubbers, high traffic), or the prolonged use of cleaners with a PH level above 10 (i.e. bleach, ammonia), will also shorten the effective life.

In practice, most of our customers re-treat with Surface Defense at 6 month or 12 month intervals. We re-test high-touch surfaces at periodic intervals to gauge how your cleaning practices and facility traffic patterns impacts the performance level, and recommend extending or decreasing treatment intervals based upon objective criteria.

We can provide estimates for many odor removal services involving vehicles and apartments over the phone. With respect to disinfection and anti-microbial services, a site visit is required so that we can measure contamination levels and understand your specific needs before we can provide a cost estimate. There is no charge for this service within the Northeastern Ohio area.

We also provide fixed rate contractual services for both preventative and emergency services to businesses, municipalities and government facilities. Local and national coverage is available.

10. What’s wrong with using bleach to disinfect?

Bleach is an effective low-cost disinfectant with a high EPA toxicity level. In practice however, bleach loses its cost advantage and its performance rapidly diminishes over time. In the presence of organic matter (the everyday contamination we deal with), bleach loses its effectiveness and requires an extra pre-cleaning step, unlike today’s one-step cleaners/disinfectants. Its caustic nature often requires a secondary rinse unlike most modern disinfectants. In addition to the extra labor requirements, diluted bleach loses its effectiveness within 24 hours and must be prepared daily. Excess bleach must be discarded each day.

Of particular importance to many of our clients who are exposed to bleach on a daily basis, long-term exposure to bleach has well documented health consequences. And if that’s not enough of a reason to consider switching, prolonged use of bleach rapidly degrades furnishings and equipment, unnecessarily increasing your capital expenditures.
